If you are comparing the Audi A4 to a 9-5, no wonder you found it small. You should drive an A6 2.7T with sport package. That is a wonderful car with this exception: that torquey twin turbo V6 makes gobs of power and _way_ more when chipped, but appears to suffer from reliability problems and is very expensive to work on in terms of labor costs. It takes about twice the man-hours to maintain as the V8, according to an Audi tech I talked to.

Audi is getting away from turbos with their "standard" cars in favor of bigger displacements and more cylinders. The R models are still getting turbo variants that produce ungodly amounts of power. The new S4, for example, will no longer have the same engine as the A6 2.7T, but a 340 bhp naturally aspirated V8.

So, have you considered a new 9-3 Sport Sedan? I think that is definitely worth consideration - it is being called "the best Saab ever" by those journalists who have driven it.
