I looked around ALOT before buying my 2002 aero recently. Drove most if not all of the cars you mentioned. Steered away from audi A6 and mercedes c240 b/c of reliability problems. Maximas, Passats, etc. are all very nice cars, but they don't have the luxury or fun factor the Saab or BMW can offer. Infiniti G35 is sporty, but the interior and ergonomic quirks turned me off. Volvo is an excellent family car, but you get the great safety features and more fun with a Saab. Jaguar X-Type was way too small and actually felt a little cheap. BMW 3 and 5 series are very nice cars, but you will sacrifice space and pay a few thousand more for a car you will pass hundreds of times a day. You really can't go wrong with any of these cars - it will come down to a personal preference. Saab appealed to me because of excellent engine/tranny, good handling and brakes, awesome safety features, reliablity, well done interior, exclusivity, and great deals! There's nothing quite like getting into my Aero in the morning, smelling the Saab leather, and riding to work with comfort and excitement. Good luck with your hunt - It is definitely a fun search!!!
