...and it may. But I can't see how anyone can deny the tremendous safety net OnStar adds to car. If you or a loved one were in a terrible accident and unable to dial 911, I am sure you would think OnStar was worth every penny.
I am in total agreement that OnStar has major flaws. Heck, I have voiced my concerns in many a survey and telephone call with them directly. But it is still a relatively new thing. They are still getting the kinks worked out. Perhaps the reason GM is so unwilling to budge on OnStar being standard on Saabs is because they need a good base of clientele from whom they can get valuable information about how to improve their service.
I believe that if OnStar did offer a more practical safety package at lower prices that many, many more people would renew than that 19% you quote. Would you not pay 15 or 20 dollars a year for automatic airbag deployment notification? Who wouldn't? You'd be crazy if you didn't. I am so happy that my family drives cars with OnStar in them, because, God forbid, if something did happen I am somewhat comforted by the extra time that OnStar affords.
