Right... because one driver drove off a bridge (out of the millions and millions of drivers that don't drive off bridges) and, luckily, her car got caught in the trees below so she didn't die right away (out of the hundreds that drive off bridges and don't get caught in trees), we should equip every car with this tremendous safety device... because it "could" have saved one person who experienced a one in 100 million type of accident... and lived anyway - even without OnStar.
If you like it, fine. Buy it. Pay the subscription. Feel safe. But I'd personally rather have some of the stuff they took away on the 2002 than OnStar. What did they take away in 2002 to (presumably) subsidize OnStar: Emergency trianges in the trunk, side reverse lights, more substantial visors, key lock to open the trunk - my '99 had all these... my 2002 does not.
