Yes and no, do not have a definitive answer. I suspect Saab already is pained by the warranty replacement costs of the DI failures, as well as the owners who get ticked off.
Numerous items were replaced on my 9-5, and of course other components can and will fail over time, this is understandable. But I take exception to simply accepting and paying a manufacturer to replace a component whose design has long been known to have reliability issues, and even the Saab dealers I spoke with admit that the DI has a high failure rate. And when this design fails and leaves myself and family stranded late at night, it's upsetting. So even though 9k out of warranty, Saab did offset most of my frustration by an out of warranty no charge replacement. But I am no longer as confident in the reliability of the car from the point of DI failure forward. So yes, in this light my request was not unreasonable, and I'll leave this post in the "reasonable" frame.
