without access to a schematic this is only educated guessing, but the discharge capacitor should be eliminated entirely from the design. In an inductive system, all you need is a low voltage pulse originating from the crank sensor, which triggers an electrical "switch" (SCR or later variant) to supply higher voltage to coil(s). I suspect Saab's design has a few more complexities to it, but the design should have significantly fewer points of failure, and one would expect much improved reliability. This inductive design is what is most widely used in autos, be it a single coil with wires to the plugs, or the coil in direct contact(direct ignition, as well )with the spark plug to eliminate the wire.
