The premise is that an impact wrench will apply a fixed rotation with each impact. The torque stick is designed so that the given roation produces a given torque level. To reach the rated torque level, the nut must be "tight", before that, the lug bolt rotation absorbs some of the torque. Obviously the torque stick must be used with only those impact wrenches for which they are designed. If the impact rotation is more or less than design, the torque "settings" will be off.
