I think that Joe E. is missing the point. With the manual transmission, you must participate in the operation of the car. YOU decide the gear, the engine speed etc. If you choose the automatic, all you do is steer the car, not really DRIVE or operate it. The manual transmission requires you to be involved in the operation of the car. More involved=a safer driver. If you get an automatic you might as well save your money and buy a Chevrolet Cavalier! For all the money you will spend, all you will be able to do is push the gas pedal and point the car down the road; hardly the point of owning a car such as this.If my 2004 9-5 Aero had an automatic I would be better off selling it. Afterall, what would be the point?
