Heh, you can't compare the paddle shifters on a F1 car with the crappy system that's integrated with normal auto trannys. F1 cars do have a clutch, it's just not activated manually, but when you move the paddles. On autos there's a huge delay from when you activate the shifter and when the tranny feels like changing gears.
You like autos - fair enough. Just don't try telling people it's faster than a manual. First of all it sucks up more power from the engine, second it's not as quick (both in auto and paddle mode) to change gears as a manual is. You can compare 0-60 times if you want. They show the difference.
Auto is great for heavy traffic, and just scooting away from traffic lights with minimum fuss, but for sporty driving on the track or in the twisties, manual is better for the skilled driver. Otherwise you'd see auto trannys in rally cars and other racing cars, but you don't, do you?
