It just sounded like it was getting difficult with breaker bars and the such, and reading the Bentley about caliper removal they discuss special tools to use.
Since i park the car in a public garage structure, it's hard for me to work on the car sometimes... once you start you gotta finish, so there's no "2 hour breaks when you get tired" or "i'll finish it tomorrow" or "i'll go to the parts store this week and finish next weekend." As i'm not that good at this stuff yet either, there's also the ever present fear that i'll take something apart or break something and not be able to get it back together.
I'm going to try to tackle this on Wed nite (it's just too hot to work on the car during the afternoon right now) so i'll report back when it's done.
I'm hoping to get the rotor off without removing the caliper, if i can't, i'll take a small stab at the caliper. If i can't get the caliper off, i think i may just leave the shield on with the one remaining bolt for the time being, as the shield doesn't look like it's going anyplace with all the stuff behind it (unless somebody tells me this is a bad idea)
By the way, the screw which goes into the rotor isn't stripped, it's just getting there, and i'd rather replace now while i have the wheel off rather than have to deal with it on a future day.
