There is no defense

There are plenty of correct-shifting, neutral-pausing Americans who will face the prospect of replacing a tranny before its time. If memory serves me correctly, that '88 SPG has the later beefed-up pinion bearing. There are many of us correct-shifting, neutral-pausing earlier Turbo owners hoping our transmissons will handle the 135 horsepower the car came with, never mind hopping it up.
The SAAB hydraulic clutch system is relatively slow-acting which adds to the problem. One needs to shift in a slow, deliberate manner, use all kinds of weird potions for lubricant, and be one with God to get a reasonable service life.
Think the Bimmer contingent and the Rice Rocket crowd worry so much about their transmissions? They only change the lube as often as they change the clutch, yet their transmissions last as long as the rest of the car, which can be considerable.
SAAB transmissions had these same concerns for almost 30 years. We Americans can't all be that inept. Were that even true, why are all the BB posters from other countries worrying as much as we are about THEIR transmissions? I guess there are really only a handful of people in the whole world capable of driving their SAABs correctly. I guess the other 99.999 percent of us are not worthy and should give up our cars immediately.
My 2 lira.
