One thing I found with my '89 900S was that there is a roller on the end of the actuating arm on the microswitch. The roller had a groove worn in it by the throttle bellcrank. I crimped a piece of copper tubing over the worn roller and that corrected whether it.
If the TPS were bad or mis-adjusted, the idle would rise to 2000 RPM.
I seem to remember reading something on this board to the effect that running up to 1500 RPM can indicate a fault with the NTC sensor.
Here's what the microswitch is for (I just opened up my Bentley to take a look.) --- Look on page 371-15. It does something to the A/C. You want the wires to go on pins 2 and 3. My '88 900S must have been cobbled a lot before I got it because (other than the A/C never working), when I made that mod that I mentioned above to the switch, the idle got better.
Beats me :-)
