I replaced my primary drive in-car with type-8s a few months ago. After installation, I had a moderately loud, rpm-dependent whining noise, which was not present before. Since then, I've driven the car about 300-500 miles. Nothing catastrophic happened, but Cmyles told me I ought to tear down and investigate the top-sprocket bearing as probable cause of the whine.
I took the car apart in 25ºF weather. Luckily I had a garage (more like a shanty but nobody asked me) to block the wind, and a 500w halogen lamp to keep my hands from freezing.
I removed the chains and sprockets, and found that the bearing was not seized. However, the aluminum arbor on which the top bearing rides has been ground away to some degree. On the top of it, I'd estimate I've created around 0.2mm lip. I've attached a picture so you have some idea of how bad it is. If the picture-attach does not work, here's a link to it:

Do you think I need to replace the front transmission case now? Or should I build the arbor back up with J-B weld or have a welder enlarge the thing? The bearing inner race is somewhat loose on the arbor, so I'm afraid of it spinning when I put it on. I just don't want to put the new bearing on and have it spin and grind away more.
The bearing inner race also appears to be discolored around half of its surface where it mates with the arbor, for some reason, as you can see in these two photos:

Thanks for any advice, opinion, or insight anyone will care to give me. I feel a bit hopeless right now.
