Well, I've picked up a Loctite product (It is like Quick Metal only it's liquid instead of paste--what Napa recommended, used to install cylinder sleeves and the like) and raised the surface of the shaft with a punch.
We'll see how long it holds, I guess. I've also scratched a reference mark in a (non-mating, non-rolling) part of the bearing race, so I can make damn sure it stays in one place with the aid of a dental mirror for viewing. Attached is a picture of the spindle with punch-marks. There's no play anymore when I fit the bearing. Obviously not durable wearwise, but my thought is it's going to be very sheer-resistant. Any thoughts?
