I've been fortunate enough to own and drive a fair number of high end sports cars over the years. I'm also lucky to have a drive to work that allows me to sort out the highs and lows in very short order.

1. I actually take my cars and weigh them, rather than rely on the brochures. My '86 weighed 2875lbs - 2.0L motor, smaller lighter transmission - no balance shafts, zero sound deadening material, 15 inch wheels and overall a smaller car. It adds up Zeke. My current '97 weighs 3240.

2. I've owned 4 different 9000s since the '86. The '86 went 165000 happy miles on the stock suspension on 205/60/15 series tires. As I recall, the '86 was the only 9000 to make Car&Driver's 10 Best list.

The later cars are delivered soft and they got softer as the years went on. They have so much understeer and so much lateral body roll it's impossible to drive them fast over a twisty road. The current formula for the '97 is konis, lowering coils, SAS roll bars, bushings and 50/16 series tires.

3. As far as the brakes, I was being kind, but rather than go on about it, I suggest a test. Being a fair minded sort, I'll leave out modern cars and pick a couple from the same generation. Go drive a Porsche 968 from 94-95 or a BMW M3 95-96. Then tell me about the 9000 brakes.

Don't get me wrong, I love Saabs. If I didn't I wouldn't own so many of them and I wouldn't go through a fair amount of money and trouble to keep them. They have great motors, beautiful interiors and world class finish.

However, when someone asks an opinion I have to be honest and objective and I'll continue to do that.
