It is a 98 900 SE turbo with manual transmission.
I can't elaborate on the handling, ran fine for me a few months ago when I drove it. Has steel rims and winter tires now. He said it started two years ago, and said not to expect it to handle like new. I know it did NOT creak like this in the summer, and the AC DID work at the time.
The 2.5-inch exhaust was just on his list, I did not look at it as a performance enhancement, just wondering if $500 is about right.
The fuel pump was over $1k installed at the dealer. The $4k included other things, not just what I listed. He has receipts for every tube of glue, so I believe it. I know there was a "difference of opinion" after the AC service when it did not work again.
He usually did minor maintenance himself, and he did say the problems were common, but just exceeded his budget for the car. Wants to spend time with his kids, not on cars. This one was bought to be his business trip and winter car. Third breakdown was one too many, his 7-year old was in the car and it was at night in December.
65k service was done at the dealer, not sure why, something about not having the right tach computer. Other than that, it was maintained by owner and a mechanic who works on older Volvos and Saabs. Rotors and pads for the front are actually sitting at the mechanic, along with a vacuum control valve for the turbo. I know he was very particular about the parts even though the brake parts are not from Saab, but I don't know what maintenance was actually done.
He is basically telling me the value of the car is less than the cost of the repairs. So I should just drive it for nine months as is except the exhaust, and then sell the parts to cover my expenses. So I would have it for free for almost a year. The list of remaining repairs is pretty long. Parts alone to fix the passenger electric seat would be more than I am paying for the car, and the AC seems to be a mystery.
