I get the feeling the car was only repaired and not maintained. I also get the feeling that the mechanic, probably good with the old stuff, isn't up to date on the new stuff. This leads to many things being overlooked during the maintenance schedule and parts being replaced when they likely only need cleaning and repair. In the end the car probably has lots of good miles left in her if entrusted to the proper owner and looked after by a knowledgable mechanic. Often times things like O2 sensors only need a cleaning, there are repair procedures for the SID, foglight bulbs burn out, hose clamps loosen themselves and suspension parts wear out. Potentially you could have a top 900 with repairs being under $1000 if you do some DIY. SAAB dealerships often will not take a 900 in on trade in any condition. If you are serious about maintaining this car you could potentially drive it for years to come, these cars easily go 300k miles. I would recomend finding a mechanic with current SAAB knowledge and the ever important TechII computer to tell you what the car really needs. There is a locator some where here on SAABNET for independant SAAB mechanics through out the country you should look one up and take the car there. It is true the car isn't worth much monetarily but it is still a useful piece of equipment. You may put nearly as much in repairs to the car as the car is worth but you will have a terrific and relatively new car out of the deal for a few dollars.
