It's my understanding that the turbo is engineered to last the life of the vehicle, whether it's specically covered by the warranty or not.
As others have said, it would be very unusual for the turbo to break, unless perhaps, you were running at very high boost levels and even then I doubt that you'd have a problem (I'm speaking from experience I've had with other Saabs but others will know more).
Since the turbo was probably defective, Saab should help you out.
