Something doesn't ring true about that price. I'm no expert here but I'm real skeptical both of the cause they describe and the cost of repair. Personally, I'd do two things: (assuming you get no help from Saab or another dealer)
1. Simply phone some Saab shops in your area and price the purchase/installation of a brand new or a factory reconditioned motor + turbo. I'd think a reconditioned engine & turbo installed shouldn't be more than $5k on the high end.
2. Get that car transported to somebody else for a second opinion and do NOT shell out the $9k.
