I had my '99 9-3 SE Convt. in for a warranty fix yesterday. When the roof of my car was down the driver side window would rattle. I was informed that this was covered by a different Saab dealership. When I dropped my car off I must have said the words "warranty fix" about 5 times. I also told them that I had to have my brake fluid topped off the other day and someone mentioned it could be a slow leak and could they just check it out to let me know. At about 2pm the dealership called to tell me the work on my car was complete. They checked out my brake fluid, topped it off, didn't see a leak, checked my brakes, etc. They also said that the rattle wasn't really the window it was the door. Then, when I showed up to pick up my car they presented me with a bill for $100.00. A $70 labor charge for fixing my door and a $28 charge for a brake inspection. I looked at the guy and told him "you never told me there would be a charge for this. The door was a warranty fix. If I had known it would cost me $70 I would have lived with the rattle!" He said "I'm sorry thats my fault" I argued with him for a few more minutes and then reluctantly paid the bill so I could get my car and leave. About 10 minutes later I called back and asked him to send a note stating that he didn't inform me of the charge until I showed up to pick up my car. He wasn't thrilled with that idea and just said fine and hung up quickly. This morning he calls me because the manager wants to make sure that the rattle is gone (they've never done that before). Which it is, but thats beside the point. This is the 3rd time my dealership has done work on my car and not informed me of what they did or how much it would cost until I picked it up. Is this ethical? Or am I at fault for not specifically asking to be notified of all work and charges before they occur?

Thanks, Steph
