Sorry about your trouble, but my experience with my 2000 9-3SE has been way different. Good preventive maintenance is helpful. This means changing brake fluid and coolant every couple of years, using good quality synthetic oil at 5 k intervals, changing serp belt and pulley every 60k, etc...rather than driving to failure. Ricers generally tolerate procrastinated maintenance better than euro cars.

This car has been very trouble free, now at 134k. And my front end does not shake, never has. I use Pilot Exaltos, rotate and balance every 5k by a reputable shop. I am on my third DI (two of them were free), and second thermostat, but other than that, every thing else has been routine. Still on original suspension, fuel pump, water pump. My 00 9-3 SE has been way better than my 94 900 SE, now THAT car had some problems. This has been very reliable compared to any other euro car, just about as good as the best of the ricers, and a lot more fun to drive, lots of room and good fuel economy. As I write this, my carpool partner is getting a new tranny for his Acura TL. He has 58k on that car, never abused it or towed anything. So there are no absolutes.

If you REALLY want to shred your bank account try keeping any Audi or VW beyond the warranty period. My wife attempted this three times (88 90, 96 A4)$$$$$repairs. It cost an average of 500.00 a month for repairs on her 01 TT for the year she kept it past warranty, it only had 23 k on it when she finally got rid of it. Nice car but weird stuff failed, mostly electronics, but heater core, evaporator, power steering pump too. Totally unacceptable. She has a cpo 04 9-5 Aero now and loves it.
