The ECU is doing a "fuel cut" because an artificial limit has been reached. Just like there is a "rev limiter" there is a boost limit on stock ECU's that if exceeded will be dealt with harshly by the ECU so it can "save the engine".
The fact is that there is plenty of safety margin past that stage and the fuel injectors can handle it so the fuel cut/boost limit CAN be raised by reprogramming the ECU. I think the resistor mod on the MAP sensor can also work around this but that sounds risky and unproven.
It still baffles me why people buy a $30,000+ car and want to "save" a couple hundred by doing cheap hacks rather than buying aftermarket ECU's from the likes of Abbott, Maptun, Hirsch, etc, that WORK well and still preserve the safety mechanisms built into the system.
