Well, find me one example where the use of a MBC on a T5 ECU has resulted in engine damage resulting from knock or detonation? You can't. So saftey features are protecting us from what? FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt, which you are creating, well intentioned I expect)
You can't argue about temperatures and mechanical engine loads as these are higher with the higher output ECU mods. Ditto for the clutch. With 15 PSI of boost in first gear you could argue about transmission and drive line issues. These are not happening. And the torque is limited by the tire traction. There are folks with ECUs with MBC's which have explored the limits of the trany and the driveshafts with no adverse effects. There have been a few random trany problems, but these seem to have been on stock vehicles. So there is no pattern of such issues with power mods.
Are there some issues with the MBC's. Yes. Are there problems with the ECU mods... yes, slow onset of boost, just like stock. There is a choice and those who sink all of $35 into a MBC are completely free to move on to a modified ECU with the BPC valve in operation. $35 is an inexpensive learning experience and a good place from which to become convinced that an ECU is something that they really want to invest in.
So the facts are... that MBC's do not involve safety issues that lead to anything adverse. That been said, one should not overboost any engine that is not in good mechanical condition or not well maintained. Lower intake and exhaust restrictions are always indicated. Those are well respected practices. Ignore those at your peril.
It is too bad that the early posts to the NG900 BB, prior to just two years ago, were lost. There was so much agitation when I posted my experiences overboosting my 95SET. There was not much out there other than Abbott's ECU mods and those were serious money. Most of the flack was from folks who were loyal to Abbott. They were self convinced that my engine was getting destroyed. Reports of the death of my engine were greatly exagerated.
So now these folks don't feel threatened at all. They know that the MBC has boost taper and fuel cuts and produces less boost, and makes 1st gear difficult to master. Nevertheless, many like the MBC and put up with the issues. The install is easily reversed and you just don't see many people wanting to go back to stock.
