there is quite a large safety margin as far as fueling goes. As you might already know, I have, as far as I know, the only US spec Hirsch ECU upgraded 9-3. Anyways, my ECU is now programmed for a modest amount of 13 psi of boost. After adding water injection and a 3" downpipe w/racecat, a friend and I came to the conclusion that if stock boost is raised, then the boost triggered fuel cutoff must be raised as well. We also then decided that the ecu must be able to throw enough fuel into the cylinders for boost spikes into the higher pressures.
We installed a mbc just to see what it would do with the Aquamist set at a pretty low pressure to make sure it was protecting against knock. Result was that it boosted to almost 7/8's red and had a huge amount of torque. We then checked the plugs for running condition and found them to be just fine.
After that we returned my car to just ECU control. I believe that running a T25 that hard is obviously creating extreme temps and the turbo will probably last only so long before bearing failure. Also, I am not so sure the instant on boost that a mbc allows is so good for the transmission as well.
Anyways, I agree with you Bruce but I also do not see any problem with others experimenting with their cars and performance mods.
Have fun!
