Me too... Posted by Justin VanAbrahams [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Totally disagree about the HHR, Caarma ![]() ![]() |
I rented an HHR about a year ago to drive to SoCal and enjoyed every minute of it. Sure, compared to a $35,000 turbo car the $18,000 HHR feels underequipped and underpowered, but I felt it was comfortable and well thought out inside. Against much of it's competition, I'd say it's an excellent buy if you can get over the styling. I didn't mind the blind spots - it was clear they were there, but they never got in my way. The large D-pillars and small rear window were offset by generous side mirrors, so backing up and changing lanes never presented a problem. It also got excellent fuel economy - I averaged 32mpg on the 390 miles to LA and back and rarely dipped below 75mph. Considering the size and shape of the thing, I was pretty impressed.
A coworker has a loaded HHR and a friend an SS. The SS is freakishly fast - the direct injection Ecotec is a terror, and the no-lift-shift and launch control are pretty kickass. The chassis dynamics aren't as good as a 9-3SS, but much better than the OG9-3. Still has cheap car feel, but IMHO I don't think Saab is leading anyone there anyway. If your purchasing criteria is "feels good inside" you're shopping for an Audi anyway... :)
