shape and height of the dash, related to the height of the driver, so some of it's perception. If you have a relatively high dash, like a C900, then you need the seat to be higher unless you are fairly tall. So the "walk-in, sit down" configuration helps. I think the 9000 has less of that feeling, and the 9-5 and 9-3 don't feel that way at all to me. To me, anyway, I feel like I am "in" the 9K and 9-5, but still don't feel the car is enveloping me.
Another thought... in a sedan, how much of the feel of being enveloped is the amount of glass? Saabs (especially 9Ks) have large greenhouses, which limits the sense of being wrapped inside the car.
