What seems strange (dare I say "quirky"?) to me is that SAAB uses wood (either real or simulated) in its cars at all. With SAAB's heritage in aircraft design, I can understand brushed aluminum dashboards, but wood? Have you ever seen a wooden instrument panel in an airplane?
In our '99 9-5 se the first thing I did was to cover the area around the shift lever and along the "sill" under the instrument cluster with a flat black contact paper to eliminate the bright relections of street lights as I passed under them. I'd prefer that the entire dashboard were some kind of matte finish gray or black plastic, as it was in the OG900s and 9000s.
