What you are saying is that you toast the Audi with the Lancia.
I don't think that's the point Robert was making. Your Aero will
still not measure up to the Audi A6 4.2 (with, dare I say,
quattro, there,I've said it :-)).
I have not had the pleasure of driving the 4.2 A6, but I
have spent some time behind the wheel of a 2.7t. The high
end passing power is amazing, and I'm sorry, but the Aero
loses. I don't pretend to say that it will win at altitude,
but that's not relevant for me.
It's also known that the 2.7l engine in the A6 can take a lot more
boost, I have known people to get 300HP chip upgrades in their S4s
(same engine). I am hoping that this is the direction Audi is headed
for the next generation S4.
Also - I have a problem with labeling technology as junk
purely based on an abstract "this approach is better than that
approach" principle as I've seen you do in earlier posts
regarding Audi's AWD. Good engineering can make the most of
any reasonable approach, and good engineers need to learn a
little humility in the realization that there are smart
people everywhere!
Audi's AWD system may not be designed for flinging cars at
white-knuckle limit around a track, but they (Haldex and
Torsen) are still extremely good for spirited everyday driving.
If as you say, you're burning through tires every 3k miles,
you need to get yourself a Porsche GT2, not a road car as
we mortals aspire for.
Bottom-line is that we all try to get cars that work for
our set of requirements. My requirements may be different
from yours. Audi must be doing something right to be selling
as many cars as they do, and Saab must also be doing something
right to be selling well in Europe and something less right
to be selling poorly in the United States.
Speaking of drive-trains, try the E46 BMW M3. It's a real
sweetie-pie. It does have a limited slip differential,
just for you :-)
And the Aero has neither. Happy wheel-spinning!
