Wow, which part of the world do you live in that you don't see any decent condition 90-93 (9-12 years old) japanese cars. Here are a few cars I should remind you of that vary from being exotics to econoboxes:
1991 and newer Acura NSX/Legend/Integra (all tend to be in excellent condition, rust free, even here in Canada).
1990 and newer Lexus LS/ES cars (awesome used car purchases against any European competitors due to rock solid mechanicals and electronics.)
1990 and newer Nissan 300ZX (what a car even today !!!) and yes Maximas even those little Sentras (no rust problems there either).
1990 and newer Toyota anything (they are bulletproof, period.)
etc etc etc.
The only comment I will agree with is that European cars tend to be safer. But hey, when it's time to go, it's time to go. No car can save you if it's your turn. :-)
