I'm not disappointed that the tail lights are on in the "off" position. It would be too easy to crank up the car with the headlights coming on at night/before sunrise, not realizing that in the "off" position the tail lights would not be on. That could give cause to a serious mishap. It's safer that the tail lights work in all modes.
