"Drivers Look to Stick Shifts As They Lose Control of Cars", is the title of a lead article on 1st page of second section of 2/22/02 WSJ. According to WSJ, sales of manual transmissions in the USA are increasing, especially in luxury cars. This trend is expected to continue for at least the next 5 years. Many luxury brands are adding manual trannies to their option lists because of customer demand, and so as not to lose sales. Even Caddy is selling a manual tranny.
Go to: http://online.wsj.com/public/search and type in "manual transmission" (including the quotes) for the whole article.
