Chudzik: A few points about the setup in the BMW M-3. I believe that the way that BMW has set up the transmission in the new M-3,with all of those differnt maps for clutch engagement speed, shift speed etc., is their way of saying"We want the first thousand customers to be our market research department" for us. No transmisson needs six different auto and manual programs for shifting. When they get enough feedback on which settings are used the most,I am sure they will burn those wsettings into firmware, and get rid of those switches. Let's face it,here you are driving your kids to school, or picking up groceries or some other day to day errands, and you have time to waste playing with the shifting speed of your transmission? Not I. Guaranteed you will see that cleaned up real fast.
If you are not putting down 40K for a car in this lifetime, that takes you out of Saab Aero range, which is what started this conversation off. The Aero is in my opinion, not cheap, but certainly a car that many car enthusiasts would classify as attainable. It's no Ferrari, but it's no Hyunday either. I think it will be some time before the E-H concept makes it's way to the 20k market segment.
