in-board halogens as DRLs--any EEs here??

Well the day that V*lvo ran into me, I had the bi-xenons on. But due to their sharp cut-off, I don't think they're very noticeable in the daytime, and plus I'd like to conserve the life of those very expensive bi-xenon bulbs.
What I'm thinking of doing is wiring the in-board halogens (at reduced intensity) as the DRLs, similar to how DRLs are run in BMWs, Hondas (in Canada), Toyotas, and many GM cars. Those are annoying to me (!), so they're bound to be more noticeable than the bi-xenons during the day.
Now, I can probably locate a switched +12V source easily enough, as well as the relay to those halogen bulbs, but I have no idea how to wire it so that the halogens will shut off at night when the bi-xenons are switched on. And what sort of resistor to use so that the bulbs operate at somewhat reduced intensity...
Anyone with an electronics or electrical engineering background have any idea? I'm guessing an extra relay or two will take care of this.
Hmmm, maybe J.C. Whitney sells a kit...
Or maybe I will just run with the bi-xenons on "bright" during the day! Out of my way, V*lvos!!!
