Thank you all for the great responses. It's interesting that so many of you have experience with both cars - I guess some of us are just attracted to Swedish cars! Anyway, I think all of you made good points. I have just had the S60 T5 on a 24 hr test drive. It is a beautiful car, smooth, quiet, solid, and refined, though I will say that the steering feels a bit numb and the suspension is pretty soft even in the T5. The seats are terrific though, and some of the practical features, such as memory mirrors, dual zone climate control, and great interior storage spaces (and oh those cupholders!) are clearly a step up from the Saab in my mind. But you all are right - at its real world price point ($36k) it may be more fair to compare it to a 9-5 than the 9-3. That might not be the case without the incentives, because the crappy residual on the ballon financing would more than eat up the difference in price. But the $4000 rebate on balloons is enough to make a real difference. If money weren't a factor, I might go for the S60, and who knows, I still might. But right now I'm leaning towards the Saab. I'm going to see if I can get the dealer to let me take it overnight tomorrow night, and if I like it (and he throws in a free center armrest accessory) I might buy it on Saturday. But ask me tomorrow and I may change my mind again!
