Viggen Clutch & Transmission Questions Posted by Goldenbear [Email] (#123) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Goldenbear) on Sun, 1 Dec 2013 14:59:13 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Background:
My 2001 Viggen conv is just shy of 120K and is showing signs of clutch slip. I noticed what seemed like clutch slip for the past couple of years, whenever I floored the accelerator hard on the fwy. Suddenly, about a couple of weeks ago, the slipping started to happen whenever the turbo was just approaching the yellow, both fwy and surface streets.
So I've been informed that I should also replace the transmission at the same time, as the labor is basically included. It's apparently not the transmission specifically, but "something" (bushing?) that attaches between the drive shaft and the transmission? The person telling me this had no idea what it was. He also mentioned a "Rear Main Seal".
What are these mystery parts that need to be replaced, and what else should I replace while I'm at it?
I've go the following items on my list:
Clutch Kit
Clutch Slave Cylinder
Rear Main Seal??? <--- What is this?
Mystery Transmission bushing or something??? <--- What is this?
Finally, is a Quaife LSD worth it? What does it give me that I don't get otherwise? I'm probably keeping the car for another 100K or so, but I don't want to keep putting more money into it if not needed.
