I forgot to come back to this, but in case someone searches in the future...
for what it was worth, I took ELaw and dmzqqq's advice, kind of... I managed to get it up propping it on 2x8's and once the door was fully up (and locked in place with vice grips), I cut the cables. there was no tension fully up - I could feel the slack in the cables... the dangerous part is if that door fell, it could be lethal. I just stayed out of the path until after I dropped it back down (and I did it in stages - I had several lengths of 2x8 that I pried out sequentially to let it drop less fast). Removal of the door at that point was a piece of cake. Just 50-100 bolts to zing off with the impact gun working the panels off top down...
one of those things that's dangerous if you are careless, but otherwise no big deal... glad I did it vs paying someone, but glad I thought it through first! thanks!
