Without being technical, I think it is a personal choice whether you like to drive a manual or an auto, in general. I have driven a manual all my life, except for one year, and I like having control. The Saab auto is very smooth. I drove an Arc for 600 miles but just couldn't love an automatic. I don't like listening to the engine, and thinking that I would be shifting a little differently. The manual is just more fun, but it's also what I'm used to.
After driving the Arc, I drove the Linear manual. Once my heart told me I really wanted the manual, I drove the Linear manual and the Aero manual back-to-back. Coming from a '95 9000CS manual, the Linear felt very familiar, except the clutch is much lighter. The Aero seemed quieter at idle than the Linear, and it obviously has more power. (I did not drive the Linear auto or the Aero auto). I would say that if you like the feel of shifting the manual Linear, you will LOVE the manual Aero! I have yet to drive mine hard, as my Aero is only two days old. But I don't think I will regret getting the manual!
Good luck!
