Having had experience of trading 3 9-5's now, I think I'm getting to know what is important to dealers when taking the car in against another, or giving a valuation. I had great difficulty getting a *decent* part-ex on my manual 9-5's over here in the UK. I'd phone round the dealers asking for a ballpark figure, and many wouldn't even give me a price for the manual - in a couple of cases, that was the first thing they asked - is it an Auto. When I told them no, they weren't interested. It seems that some UK buyers are fickle when it comes to buying a car of this class, and expect it to have an auto, not a manual box. The 9-5 Auto that I had prior to this one was no problem to the dealer, and I got a good price. Might be too small a sample size to say for sure, but the car is in the mid-luxury segment, and so an auto box could be considered *right* for the car. The Aero is perhaps a slightly different kettle of fish though - being a sporty model, carrying a luxury cabin. I think it probably wouldn't matter either way - manual or auto, both are desirable cars, with differing merits.

(I still think the Auto is better though :-) - you can't beat that feeling of almost imperceptible rapid gear changes as you accelerate. No stick your foot down, run out of first gear in a few yards, pause and lurch as the revs drop off, into second, run out of second, pause and lurch as the revs drop off etc.... The power build up in the 5-spd is train like - just a smooth unbroken surge of ever increasing acceleration as you squeeze the throttle harder and until the world starts to blur.... Yes, thanks Mr Saab, we like....we like a lot.....
