Just purchased new 2002 9-5 Arc model, Test drove the Arc and Aero models only so no comment on the linear. The Arc has a sports option on its automatic transmission which when sellected gives you great low end acceleration and good mid range acceleration. The Aero did not match the low end acceleration but had great mid range. The Arc does not come with manual option. I also live in crowded city and don't use top end speed much. Went with Arc model because of v6 which is very smooth and quit and I did not feel I gave up much in power.
Incentive on Arc/Aero is about $6000 so was able to buy for $31M. A great price for a very good sedan. Also tested and considered the Audi 6, Infiniti G35(my second favorite), Lexus 300, and Cadillac CTS.
Good luck with your decision.
Jag.
