<<Most of us don't want to take the time/effort to wipe down our rims "a couple times a week".>>
My daughter just got her first car ('93 Audi 90). I showed her how spiffy she could make her wheels look by just going around and cleaning the brake dust (Now she notices any car with dirty wheels!).
But more than that, she can use the opportunity to check for anything wrong: slow leaks, bubbles, cuts, etc. We live in NJ. 'Nuff said about maintaining a safe vehicle.
Saab uses airplane analogies all over it's cars, right down to the maplight(!). Airplanes get the going-over before each flight. I don't see how a quick go-round on such a critical area as tires/wheels is such a high price to pay for operating a pretty snazzy machine. Sort of the job I love to hate.
Maybe it's just the ex-bicycle racer in me: Obsessed with tires/wheels and staying upright in a pack.
best,
Greg
