I know the 9-5 engine is distantly related to your '83 900 engine, but not exactly... the '83 900 8V put out what, 115 to 125 hp? In all likelihood, it was much easier on the oil than today's SAABs running 20 psi of boost.

API "SL" is a nearly worthless rating for today's European cars; even the crappiest conventional oils at Target/7-11/Kmart meet this spec.

ACEA A3/B3 most certainly DOES NOT equate to any API rating, and the other European car companies are clear on this.

Mobil 1 xW-30 oils (API SL) do NOT meet ACEA A3/B3 spec and are NOT approved for use in today's Mercedes Benz, Porsche, etc., automobiles.

Only Mobil 1 0W-40 meets all the European specs!
