Re: Flywheel pilot bearing crash -- I blew it - give it Posted by Landjet [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: Flywheel pilot bearing crash -- I blew it - give it, SWEDECAR ![]() ![]() |
Thanks Anders -- I did just that a few weeks ago as I was afraid that the propeller was damaged. So, I removed the propeller and tried to give the shaft some hits to seat it, but it was already home. The surface of the shaft was equal to the surface of the splined housing.
I think that the shaft is stuck up against the bearing -- it should float on the shaft as the crankshaft has some end play, and will move slightly in and out.
With the shaft sticking against the bearing, I think that there is a problem with the recess that the bearing is supposed to seat into. So, being in the aviation business, I would call this an Airworthiness Directive to remove the flywheel, take out the bearing for inspection, and the then reinstall making it flush as you suggest.
Guess I will have to ground the Landjet, and do it right this time.
