When the pilot bearing is seated properly and I insert the clutch shaft. The shaft always moves a tad below the surface of the upper primary gear.
I then install the plastic propellar and when I screw that one into the clutch shaft, the shaft comes out again and lodge with the groove in the snap ring.
Personally, I don't think you would damage anything by using the tip of the splines (tapered) on clutch shaft to push the pilot bearing further into the flywheel.
The pilot bearing is not that hard set into flywheel if you didn't use loctite.
If you remove the plastic propellar and insert an M8 bolt instead to tap on with a short sledge hammer.
