The typical Honda Accord is a transportation device, not anything to get excited about. Several years ago the Popular Mechanics magazine compared a Honda Accord to a refrigerator. You just plug it in and it sits in the corner quietly running away. You don't need to think about it, you don't need to maintain it. They also mentioned that modern refrigerators are very efficient, and so is the Honda. They were not being derogatory about the Accord, but were trying to convey that they are a car for the non-car types. You don't need to own a toolbox to own a Honda, in fact, you can simply neglect the maintenance schedule altogether, and the car will remarkably continue running. Sure, the car is a bit ho-hum to drive, but for the masses that just need some wheels to get to work, it's the best thing for them!
Despite what we may think, "car nuts" are a small contingent of the population. Most people however don't even think about their cars when the drive them (most people don't think about their driving either!) Hondas sell like crazy because are designed for these masses that need some wheels for transportation, but don't want to think about how the car itself.
