Aside from the probably over-hyped reliability, the fuel economy of the new Civic is an outstanding reason to buy the car! My inlaws own a 2007 Civic and they love it. On a 3000 mile trip they did a year ago that included some city driving, they *averaged* better than 50mpg!
It's not a bad car. Has roughly the same performance as our 2.1L NA C900 + probably about as safe as well (new Civic rates highly - they've done what's needed to "pass the tests" but I'd rather be in a c900 vs a moose). But, like Steven says, it's an appliance. I'd never buy one - they're too boring + lack many of the things Saab owners take for granted. Otoh, my inlaws are not really car enthusiasts and would probably never consider buying a Saab (especially as they've seen how much effort we put into ours). Different cars for different people!
