VIKINGSAAB - Expansion Valve Question

I have been having an expansion valve nightmare on my 91 9000T. I am on my third valve, all aftermarket, and I am ready for the chainsaw.
I have pressures that start around 200/30 and go to 300/11. The evaporator freezes up like a popsicle. Ultimate cooling is not too bad, but cool down takes forever.
Did you try removing the bulb from the evaporator outlet tube to see what happened to the pressures? When I remove the bulb from the tube, the valve opens and pressures start to equalize. This is EXACTLY the opposite of what is supposed to happen. When the bulb senses heat, it is supposed to close, dropping the pressure in the evaporator, and increasing high side pressure. Removing the bulb from the evaporator tube should drop the low side almost to a vacuum.
Right now, I have no insulation on the bulb and it's working better. Which is just wrong.
On thing on my car, is that I bent the evaporator outlet tube, right where the pressure line from the expansion valve attaches. I am considering replacing the evaporator to see if that's my problem.
