total the engine. There is a chance, but with most turbo engines the pistons are pretty hard. The damage will happen on the valves, and potentially the guides and head.
Not that I am advocating leaving a bad timing chain in until it breaks, but if it does, I recomend getting a remanufactured head if it happens. They will come complete with resurfaced valves and new guides.
I learned the hard way about 6 years ago with mine. Chain broke, bent 6 valves (2 intake, 4 exhaust). The dealer did the work and replaced the gasket, bent valves & guides, and chain/guides etc. The problem is that the dealer didn't know the head had been damaged. It wasn't bad enough to cause an immediate problem, but eventually the head failed with a hole in the same location that the bent valve hit the head. This required doing the whole job again a couple years later.
Good Luck
