I'm pretty sure .... Posted by AMG [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: First, jack the car up and remove the engine..., Joe98, Thu, 19 Aug 2004 12:20:00 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
that the '94 CS has D.I. (Direct Ignition), and doesn't use plug wires.
So in Joe's post above, disregard the parts about plug wires but everything else applies.
Your plugs are located below the red cover (D.I. Cassette) in the picture below. You disconnect the electrical connector on the right and rock the Cassette slightly while pulling up to release it from the plugs. Down in the hole you will see the four plugs.
Remove them with the plug wrench from the toolkit, use a long thick screwdriver for leverage by passing it through the top of the plug wrench perpendicular to the wrench and parallel to the top of the engine.
BE careful when you re-insert the plugs, it's easy to mis-thread and cause big problems. Use no wrench until you have the plugs inserted properly and hand tightened as much as possible.
A trick to get proper threading taught to me by Michael Smith on this BB:
Use the Saab supplied plug wrench. Insert the plug into the wrench and lower it into the hole. Slowly rotate the wrench/plug COUNTER-CLOCKWISE and you will eventually feel a small click as the thread falls into place. Then begin to rotate clockwise and you should be able to fully seat the plug using only hand strength. Then use a screwdriver to turn the wrench another 1/2 to 3/4 turn.
ALSO, if you have them out, you should replace them if you haven't in awhile. For this you'll need the correct NGK plugs and something called Di-electric grease. The grease goes into the four holes attached to the bottom of the D.I. casette or onto the top of the plugs once they've been re-inserted.
MAKE SURE nothing goes down the holes into the engine once the plugs are removed!
P.s. the purple circle is around the area of the O2 sensor. Below the AC compressor and hose you can barely see it, a little bit of bronze pushing through.
Good Luck -AMG
