Your car is no different than any other car in this respect. It gets harder to start as the tank is emptied because the fuel is getting more and more devolatilized. Meaning that the volatile components evaporate to fill the empty gas tank (see a more technical explanation next paragraph). Those volatile components are key to cold starts, because the slight engine vacuum is the only thing assisting in the fuel vaporization during cold starts.
The volatiles evaporate because they have a higher vapor pressure than the other gasoline components. They will continue to evaporate until an equilibrium is reached between the fuel in the tank and the vapor space. The fact that there is a greater volume in the vapor space as the fuel tank empties translates into more and more vaporization of volatiles, regardless of air ingress. In other words, there is nothing you can do to prevent devolatilization except to keep the tank full or near full.
