in principle, that is a good idea re the fridge bulb. did you work through the numbers? I'm surprised that for the integrated time the fridge door is open, + the bulb's heat capacity, that it would be a significant heat source relative to the infiltration loss of opening the door, but maybe? there is no need for it to be incandescent these days (especially as white LED's get cheap - you probably had to pay a premium b/c of the socket compatibility which a fridge manufacturer could work out in the design phase at virtually zero incremental cost)...
wrt the global warming, I know some up here (I'm in Canada) might welcome it at this time of year, but my impression was that we'll end up with more desert in the central US + the praries... northern reaches might have a better farming climate, but actual results may depend on soil conditions etc... I won't delve into this can of worms topic beyond that, but your point re climate variations over geological timescales is important to keep in mind... oh, and I should note, I'm willing to forego palm trees in Boston if it means more snow for skiing (but I might be in the minority)...
